I can do Persistence and Perseverance but had trouble with Progress. We found ourselves at UCSD in sunny La Jolla, spending 7-hours a day with a squad team of anti-ED militia. He was totally overwhelmed – MDs, therapists, nutritionists, psychiatrists, and a whole room full of other Maudsley Moms, Pops and kids (so great!). Make no mistake, ED was highly active – went into overdrive. There was anger, fury, and radical resistance BUT by the end of the week he had conceded defeat (at least temporarily). We learned so much about EDs and Maudsley and Lauren ate constantly (including morning snack – what?!). It’s all part of the program and I was determined we would get with it. She gradually settled into a state of resignation, which was accompanied by compliance (phew!) and flexibility (yay!). Could this please last forever? We all returned home full of enthusiasm and renewed energy to continue the battle.
